  1. Q:  Something that intrigues me about McLuhan is 
  2. his literary and even religious influences and how 
  3. he shaped those influences into a career espousing 
  4. modern technology. How do you think those kinds 
  5. of ancient influences were brought out in his 
  6. modern theories?

  8. A:  I think if you scratch McLuhan‚Äôs version of an 
  9. ideal global village very hard you will come back to 
  10. the medieval papacy, in a sense, where there was a 
  11. at least in McLuhan‚Äôs mind perhaps, a concept of a 
  12. global village maybe not connected with 
  13. technology but connected through faith and 
  14. through institutional response, i.e. the Church. I
